So after over a year of making a blog because I wanted to start writing again, I am finally making a post! Hopefully they become more frequent as life and school settle down.
Things started to get crazy in March as I started searching for that "perfect" summer internship. I got my account on TeamWorkOnline started and was ready to apply for the internship of my dreams. My first summer one to apply for was of course any type of communications or marketing internship for the Houston Astros. Since I was in junior high, I have always told myself I was going to be an intern for the Astros some time while I was in college. A semester had finally arrived that I was not going to have to take any classes (so I thought) and although the summer program is the most competitive of the three semester programs, I wanted to get my foot in the door for an organization I had dreamed about working for for so many years.
Of course I couldn't just limit myself to one internship or even one location. Thus came the time to apply to Kentucky Motor Speedway, Charlotte Motor Speedway, American Airlines Center and about 4 or 5 other places for communication and marketing positions. Just when I was starting to get excited about where my summer may be taking place and the what organization I would have the privilege to work with, I got news that would change my whole school plan for the next year, I could graduate a semester earlier than I thought!
Although this of course was awesome news (considering I was going to be attending school an extra year anyway), it was going to ruin all the awesome thoughts that were flowing through my head about what the summer and next year would bring. Instead of interning in the summer, taking my remaining 9 hours in the fall and doing my final internship in the spring, I was now having to choose whether taking my final 2 hours in the summer and my final internship in the fall was more advantageous to me. After much debating, praying, talking and analyzing, it became clear that forgoing a summer internship and getting done earlier was going to be more beneficial in the long run both educationally and financially.
Of course a couple of days after finally making the decision, Kentucky Motor Speedway calls and extends me a chance for an interview for one of the positions I had applied for with close to 50 other applicants. Turning their offer down was one of the hardest things I had done in a while, but I knew that bigger and brighter things were to come.
So now I sit here still searching for that "perfect" internship that is waiting somewhere for me! My heart still knows and believes that one day I will be with the Astros, even if it doesn't start out as an intern, but I know somewhere out there the internship is waiting for my application. All I have to do now is continue to search for it until I find it! And when I see it, I will know where I belong and what I am suppose to do, learn and achieve. And now the search continues.........
